I've loathed standardized tests since 1997 or so

Prior to that, we'd give the ITBS (Iowa Test of Basic Skills) in grades 4 and 8. The VA SOL's kicked in around that year (thanks George Allen). I remember one third grader back in 2013 who took my testing advice to heart. I suggested that my students should double check their test answers when they were done. Since the test is untimed, she was still "double-checking" at 6:30pm after starting her 30 question math test at 8:30am. This sent the whole school system into crisis mode! :)

Three years ago, I was subbing for a second grade class during a county formative testing day. I had one girl who simply couldn't remember how to spell her name in order to log in. Then she couldn't remember her password (her cafeteria lunch code). And she wasn't the only one. It was like herding cats.
